Opportunities

Potential UK Market

The UK construction industry is vast: its output is worth £100B+ a year. It accounts for 8% of GDP, and employs 2.1 million people in 250,000 different firms. However, buildings are also responsible for almost half of UK carbon emissions, half of water consumption, about one third of all landfill waste and 13% of all raw material used in the UK economy. UK Construction industry is a huge industry and traditionally the Government has been responsible for about 40% of the budget via schools, roads, hospitals etc. The latest DTI Construction Statistics (2007) can be found at the foot of this page.

Business Model

ERT's Business model is to license PIM production and provide technical support in return for fees and royalties. The license model works on the basis of a minimum annual royalty. This is attractive to organisations that understand the potential for the production, their specialist market places and also know of the distribution and supply chain. Technical support can be provided via Arup (www.Arup.com) with whom ERT has a partnership agreement. ERT is now looking for further commercial partners to take different products to market. There is a positive climate for innovation with the low cost of raw materials in this sector and advice from WRAP that it is better to recycle than landfill or incinerate. ERT will offer the folowing services to any interested business or consortium:

  1. A business plan for both UK and overseas.
  2. Design, build and operate the process and plant
  3. Broker meetings with individuals and organisations interested in running a business producing eco-sheets and other construction products.

For example on the 6th December 2007 ERT announced that it had granted a UK production licence to 2K Manufacturing Limited (2K) for the manufacture of eco-sheet in the UK. 2K is the preferred manufacturer for the board. 2K has established strong links with distributors and end users in the construction industry.  2K says it has an aggressive plan for several production plants in the United Kingdom and also mainland Europe. Production is expected to commence in early 2009.Whilst the UK licence deal is worth a minimum of £2 million in licence fees and royalties to ERT (over a period of five years), the intention for both ERT and 2K is to work together with their partner organisations to ensure that minimum production and licence fee targets are superceded on an annual basis.  Click here for the full text of the announcement.
